DIY Playdough – No Cook & No Cream of Tartar

Now that Haidyn is becoming more and more hands on I decided it was time to give her a lot more sensory activities to do. At the previous preschools, I’ve worked at we rarely if ever actually bought playdough  since we always made it. It’s safer for the children that tend to eat it- which is exactly what my girl does. So I whipped out the ingredients I had at home and viola made some playdough !This recipe is kid friendly in the kitchen as well. I can't wait to make more with Haidyn.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 1/2 cups salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup hot/warm water
  • food coloring

DIRECTIONS
  1. To make four different colors , you’ll need to four medium bowls. ( I used cereal bowls for mine.)
  2. Divide water into ¼ cup measurements and power into each bowl.
  3. Add drops of food coloring to the water ( however many you would like and whatever color you would like. The more color you add the brighter your playdough will be. )
  4. Add 1 ½ tsp of oil to each bowl    * you could also add extract here for the kids, but you totally can omit. *

  5. In a large bowl, measure our 4 cups of flour and 1 ½ cups salt in a large bowl. Stir mixture well.

  6. Measure out 1 cup of the dry mixture and add it to each of the wet mixtures bowls.
  7. Take a spoon and stir entire mixture up.

  8. After they are well incorporated take, on a floured surface knead the playdough one by one.

  9. Store in an air tight container and Enjoy!
