Homemade Rosemary Poppyseed Crackers

My best friend and I have been searching EEEEEVERYWHERE for a great cracker recipe. We’ve been tweaking it to fit what we have in our kitchens and the simplicity of the recipe because homemade doesn’t mean it should take hours.  I wanted something that I can make easily with Haidyn so that I can control what goes in my crackers. We eat a lot of crackers and I wanted to find an alternative to the $2.00 box of crackers that typically vanish the minute we buy them. This is a recipe we follow for homemade crackers that you can change up! You can use whole wheat flour, all purpose or a combination of the two as well as your favorite different seasonings. If you want to add a little cheddar, you can add 1 ½ cups of your favorite shredded cheese to the mix for a little something different.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour( you can mix with whole wheat flour)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup water
  • TOPPINGS; 1 tablespoon poppy seeds, 1 teaspoon sea salt , 1 tablespoon rosemary , 1 tsp pepper * you may change these as you please.

DIRECTIONS
Place a rack in the lower third of the oven and heat to 450°F.
  1.  Sprinkle a baking sheet lightly with flour and set aside.
  2. In a stand up mixer, combine all dry ingredients.
  3. Once well incorporated add in oil and water to the flour mixture as well as all the toppings you’d like.
  4. Mix until dough is formed.
  5. Divide the dough into two halves and set one half aside.
  6. Working with half , sprinkle your work surface lightly with flour  and roll dough out as thin/thick as you’d like your cracker to be.
  7. Cut out your crackers. You can cut them out however you like!

  8. Transfer all crackers to baking sheet and prick with fork.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes. Watch them carefully because they can burn easily. You can repeat steps 7-9 with the other half of the dough.
  10. Cool crackers on a wire rack.
  11.  Store the crackers in an airtight container.

My snack for work!
