Haidyn got her hair did

We know that we waited a long time before cutting Haidyn's hair. Waymon wanted to wait until she was five to cut her hair. He told me he wanted to wait that long right after we had her and I thought that it was nuts to wait that long. I honestly thought that I would eventually convince him to change his mind after a year , but here we are five years later and I'm the one who hesitated to get it cut.
Waymon picked the date and of course Hootsee set everything up with her awesome hair dresser Sony.

Haidyn didn't know what to expect since she's never gotten her cut but she's seen her Hootsee in Sony's chair a couple times before so she knew she was in good hands. As we saw her hair fall to the ground we were so relieved! We went in thinking that an inch off the bottom would do the trick, but we left with cutting four inches off! That sounds like a ton, but if you've seen this girl's horse hair you would understand. Haidyn's hair was past her butt prior to us cutting it. Haidyn left Sony's chair like a new person. We walked in with our five year old and walked out with a teenager .

I was scared that Haidyn wouldn't have the curly ends that I envy most days. For an entire week after her haircut her hair was as straight as Waymon's and I panicked, but after that first week her beautiful curls came back.  Her hair is a little more manageable, but you gotta love her lion's mane.

Class of 2032

Our girl is officially started school! We've left our beloved preschool behind and stepped into public school! If you're a fellow daycare parent you know the feeling all to well of no trading up that daycare payment for public school. We pulled Haidyn from preschool early because it was 1) easier for us 2) so she could have an actual summer 3) so she wouldn't completely lose it when school started. We realize that Haidyn had gone to the same school for the past three years and even if the school was preparing for the transition there was so much going on that she started to feel it all at once. She got a little restless as her first day of kindergarten grew closer but we're here and we all made it!

We are currently two weeks into school and Haidyn loves it! She was apprehensive of the uniforms and making new friends but she's adjusted better than I thought. I was honestly terrified of her making new friends because she wants to be liked to bad. I asked her repeatedly about school , friends and teacher for the first week and while she said nothing at all she didn't seem sad. Come to find out on back to school night she had made friends with the entire class , was trying to be the class clown and loved school so much because she was so busy every single day. I worried for no reason.

She's starting to learn that there are consequences for being a class clown . Her teacher was being nice when she told us about the first week incidents. Haidyn fessed up completely after a week of interrogating  her . We're learning as a family right ? I'm so exited for her and her new adventures. Class of 2032 seems so far away, but I'm sure this time will fly by once again. Time you're a thief!

Summertime Madness

It's rare that Jon gets to come home let alone gets to come home for a little summer getaway! We took full advantage of his time off this summer and whisked him away to our favorite city . How could we not? He'd hadn't been to SF in so long. I'm pretty sure that the last time Jon was in the city was with us to do all the touristy things. We only had him for a week so we jam packed his schedule with all the family things. Jon had the worst flight into Reno ( his flight was delayed 8ish hours)  and our trip down to the bay started as soon as he got into town. Jon was a little irritated until he saw Haidyn of course. Even with Haidyn feeling under the weather these twins hit the ground running.

We carpool karaoked all the way to the bay! Our first stop was to meet with our mom's side of the family. Most of our family live in Milpitas and Jon had seen them in years. Stopping in Milpitas for the night we also got to meet up with a cousin we've never met in person (Kuya D) , our wonderful niece ( Ate B) and of course our aunts , uncles and cousins . We sat around , ate tons of food, drank , talked and laughed about life as we knew it. There was no stopping us from catching up and waking up the entire neighborhood with our laughter. We were so sad to only have 1 night but it was worth every minute.

The next day, we headed to SF to meet up with Josh to check out the infamous ice cream museum and a Giants game ( of course). It's always so great to be with my brothers! Haidyn was in full suck up mode with both of her Uncles in sight. They of course catered to her. We all felt like kids visiting the ice cream museum. How could you not with all the sprinkles!?

Who had more fun Haidyn or Mama?

We try to go to a Giants game that doesn't end up with us losing but that never happens. I don't think we've ever seen them win in person. Nonetheless, we had an amazing time watching our boys, drinking beer and eating all those delicious garlic fries. I didn't know it then but this game would be the last time I would get to see my boys Panik and D.Rod play for us. Insert my ugly crying face here.

We couldn't pass up a chance to hit up Japantown for lunch and make a pitstop ( literally) to see the Yoda fountain.  After our time in the bay we headed back to Reno to relax. The week that Jon came home was also the rare sight of me actually taking a vacation week. It felt so good to not have a schedule , hang out with Jon and celebrate my anniversary with Waymon. Jon got to see Haidyn in action at her basketball game. The girl was so nervous for her Uncle to be there that she did nothing but goof off for 1 hour.

We had a little BBQ at the house with Eric to say goodbye to Jon and welcome Tina to Nevada. Double party!  Our little vacation ended with a trip out to Wadsworth and enjoying the start of the 2019 Sacred Visions Pow Wow with the entire family. There's nothing better than being with the entire family . Our 'no plan' mini vacation turned out to be more eventful than we planned and we all enjoyed every minute of it. These are the summers that we live for. Can all our  summers be surrounded by family, drinking way too many beers and eating way too much food?
