Homemade French Bread

The struggle of trial and error with finding a good homemade bread recipe with a bread maker is difficult. I searched for months until I finally found this gem from Six Sisters. This is hands down the best recipe there is. I make different variations now with this French bread recipe, below you’ll see that I’ve made a regular loaf and a jalapeno cheddar one. This recipe never fails! I usually cut this recipe in half since I’m only needed one mini loaf for a side for our dinners. You can use any type of flour you want as well. I’ve used wheat and white and it turns out beautifully. Waymon loves when he smells bread cooking when he comes home for work. Haidyn loves helping in this too!

INGREDIENTS
  • 2½ cups very warm water
  • 2 tablespoons dry active yeast
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
DIRECTIONS
  1. Using a kitchen aid with the break hook attached ( or any other standing mixing bowl)  mix together water, yeast, and sugar until the yeast is completely dissolved.
  2. Add in salt, oil, and flour. Stir with mixer until all the dough pulls away from the mixing bowl.
  3. Take dough and knead for two minutes on a floured surface.
  4. Spray a large bowl with non-stick cooking spray and place dough in the bowl.
  5. Cover with a dish towel and let it rise until it doubles in size. (This takes anywhere from 45 min to 1 hour.)
  6. Dump dough out onto a floured surface.
  7. Cut in half and shape into your typical loaf shape. (You may cut the top of the dough for more designs to get fancy).

  8. Place dough loaves on a greased cookie sheet and let rise again until doubled (about 25-30 minutes).
  9. Bake at 375 degrees for 20-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Remove bread from oven and rub butter on top.
